About PAST CONTINUOUS tense

The past continuous is formed from the past tense of "to be" and the past form of to be is was/were and the base of the main verb plus the ending -ing form of the verb.

REMEMBER!! was used is for singular form and were for plural form. This tense refers to a continuing action or state that was happening at some point in the past. It can also be used to describe something that was happening continuously in the past when another action interrupted it.

Here are the rules: Subject + was or were + verb - with ING.

Sentences - e. g.
She was playing football yesterday.
They were eating dinner at 4 o'clock.

The past continuous is used in the negative form, to deny situations that occurred in the past and were in progress at every moment during a period of time. To use past continuous in its negative form, start with the subject, followed by was not or were not (shorter way: wasn't/weren't ) and the verb with -ing .

Here are the rules : subject + wasn't/weren't + verb with ING.

Sentences - e. g.
She wasn't sleeping last night.
They weren't watching TV.

To make questions in the Past Continuous, put was/were before the subject and add the -ing form of the verb.
