About PAST SIMPLE tense

The past simple tense is used to talk about a completed action in a time before now. The simple past is the basic form of past tense in English. The time of the action can be in the recent past or the distant past and action duration is not important. Statement of past simple must be used with irregular verbs or regular with -ed. Important!!! : To create clear and good setnences with past simple you MUST to learn irregular verbs (by rote).

Here are the rules: Subject + verb in past form (irregular, go-went or verb with - ed, work-worked).

Sentences - e. g.
She worked yesterday.
She went to school yesterday.

To form the negative of a sentence in the Simple Past you need to use the past form of the auxiliary verb do – that is did - negative form of did is did not - didn't (shorter way) REMEMBER!!! If you have didn't you mustn't add an irregular verb or regular with - ed to the sentence.

Here are the rules : subject + did not (didn't).

Sentences - e. g.
I did not play foootball yesterday. / Short way: I didn't play football yesterday.

Past simple question form use did and the verb, but don’t change the verb to the past form!

Here are the rules: Did + subject + verb + ? (verb 1st form)

Sentences - e. g.
Did you have a nice weekend?
What did you learn at school yesterday?
When did you see the film?

Be careful! We usually add time words at the end.

Did you play a game yesterday?
What did you have for dinner last night?
